Editor's Note

Good Morning,

A humble and hearty welcome to our newcomers and a rousing, "So glad you're still with us" to our not-so-newcomers.  First off, a few things worthy of celebration:

  • We've tipped over the 100 membership mark!
  • My computer wasn't totally fried--just the power pack or power source thingy!
  • It's Wednesday--computer comes home day!
  • My rewrites are almost over!
  • June 1st is AIJAN Day!

Okay, now that we've celebrated the good stuff, here's a small hiccup in the flow of things.  In my attempt to simplify/streamline, I've moved my lists to a PHPlist and successfully imported everyone.

Unfortunately, twenty-one of you prefer text messages and I am unable to pinpoint exactly who you are.

As a result, shortly following this notification I will be sending a confirmation email to you, so that you may re-elect your preferred method of receipt.  The email will be from "Webmaster" <noreply@dtp.atwc1.com> and the subject line will read: "Request for confirmation."

I appreciate your patience as we go forward.

Peace,

Dee

I hope this post finds you all in good spirits. Below is a piece that I’ve been working on since October that has been fighting me for direction. The title has gone through the gamut of “Deferred Dreams”, “Being Disabled”, “Choices” and now to finally end with “New Year, New Choices”. The ease with which I sailed through its completion today, indicates to me that maybe the struggle wasn’t about the title, or even the content, but about the timing:

October 12, 2005, 2:35 p.m.

I’ve just returned from a very nice wake. That’s right. I said “very nice wake” as in dead body, weeping and wailing. In this instance, it was less traumatic, at least for me, because there was no body. His ashes were in a lovely wooden box with his pictures on it as well as items placed on the table which were relevant and important in his life.

As Gina, my co-worker, bravely read her husband’s eulogy, I womanfully tried to hold together the sobs that wanted to break loose from my chest. I told myself that it was her husband, if she could hold it together, then so could I. I was pretty successful at this task, until she got to the part where she stated,

Quote For Success

Like snowflakes, the human pattern is never cast twice. We are uncommonly and marvelously intricate in thought and action, our problems are most complex and, too often, silently borne.

--Alice Childress, 1984

Dee411 is now a paying market!  We may be on the low end, but paying we will be.

As mentioned in the description, this newsletter is geared toward a specific audience: Sufferers, survivors, coping/living with someone who has been abused and preventative measures (i.e. the signs of abuse, how you can help)

Abuse affects many aspects of our lives:

  • Self-esteem- How we see ourselves (e.g. overweight, anorexic, insignificant, unworthy)

  • Attitude - How we carry ourselves (e.g. timidity, hardness, anger, unforgiveness)

  • Mental health - How our psyche reacts (e.g. depression, promiscuity, frigidity)

  • Habits - How do we compensate? (e.g. overspending, hoarding, controlling, lying, cheating, indecisive, inconsistent)

Articles on any of the above are acceptable.  Although informative, the tone shouldn't be overly formal and should end with bulleted action steps or a resource of some kind.  State all sources of information. Statistics are a plus.
